From the ceiling of the moon, which looked out into the stars, spiraled a giant reverse waterfall of a deep turquoise blue. Surrounding it were tall, tubular glass gravity-shafts, each nestled between thin, see-through skyways connecting the cityâs many circular corridors. Floating effortlessly in its center was the main amphitheater, a massive mountain-like rock, so lush with flowers and forest-like trees, no one believed it was real. It was the picture-perfect vision of nature-adapted technology.
âItâs not at all like any of the photos,â Andromeda exclaimed, her mouth agape as she ran toward the balconyâs edge, admiring the people gliding past them on skydisks.
âItâs even b-b-bigger than the LCSC,â muttered Grus, looking down squeamishly at the space in which one could fall below.
Leo, however, couldnât manage more than a breathless âWowâ as he realized it: He was in Luna City!
âWeâll begin with locating your rooms,â said the senator, bringing everyone to attention as he passed them each an electro-card with their room number printed on it.
âIâm room nineteen!â said Andromeda, excited.
âAnd what about you, Leo?â Grus wondered. âWhat room are you in? ⦠Iâm in â¦â He stopped for a second, flipping his card around. ââROOM EIGHTY-SEVEN!â
Leo pressed his finger to his card and discovered the exact same number on it.
âIâmâuhââ he started to say when Mallock cut him off.
âLadies first?â
Leo smiled weakly as the senator instructed everyone to follow his lead down the nearest Quickpath.
âHeyâumâLeo,â said Grus the second Andromeda had disappeared down the Quickpath behind Mallock, âdid youâuhâwant to go ahead of me?â
âThatâs okay, Grus,â said Leo, half-courteously, half-realizing room 87 was directly behind them. âIâll uhâbe right behind you.â
Grus released an unconfident groan and wobbled off after the senator and Andromeda. Leo, however, had other plans than to follow straight behind; this was the perfect opportunity to claim the better half of the dorm room before Grus Pinwheel did!
Room 87 was located at the start of a Quickpath, next to a gravity-shaft and a globule-releasing drinking fountain. Inside were three equally sized air-wave-beds: two double-stacked and one single off to the side. Already perched on top of the single bed were two suitcases, and a large electronic flag was pinned across the wall that read: CAMPEÃO MUNDIAL!
With the roomâs better half spoken for, Leo decided heâd claim the bottom bunk. (He imagined the extra floor room would prove an ideal spot to keep Archimedes.) Leo quickly threw his things over it, gave his pet a quick check, and rummaged through his book-bag in search of the note he had been meaning to give back to Senator Mallock. But what lay between the three beds was possibly the most enticing part of the entire room: a large circular window that looked directly out at Earth.
Leo was drawn to it like a bug to a lamp.
âPretty stellar view, huh?â a voice interrupted Leoâs ogling from the roomâs shared bathroom.
âYeah, itâs really something,â Leo replied. He turned around to find a boy who was about his sizeâif not a few inches
